How Perfect is The One Who took His Slave by night from The Sacred Place of Worship [Makkah] to The Furthest Place of Worship [Jerusalem]— a place whose surroundings We have blessed—, so that We could show him Our Signs. He Alone is The All Hearing, The All Seeing. [Qurʾān 17:1]

Although many people think this night occurred on the 27th night in the 7th Lunar Month of Rajab, the fact of the matter is that the exact date, or month, let alone the year are not concrete. The famous scholar of The Sīrah of The Prophet ﷺ, Al-Zurqānī, claims that there are at least 6 possible months. They are: Rabīʿ al-Awwal (3), Rabīʿ al-Thānī (4), Rajab (7), Ramaḍān (9), Shawwāl (10), and Dh al-Ḥijjah (12). The Legendary Ḥadīth Master of India, Al-Muḥaddith ʿAbd Al-Ḥaqq Al-Dehlawī mentions in his book on the virtues of The Islamic Months, that most scholars consider this wonderful event to have occurred either in Ramāḍan or Rabīʿ al-Awwal.

It is also very important to note that we are not in any way ‘celebrating’ this amazing event. Because a quick glance at the beautiful life of God’s Beloved Prophet ﷺ shows us that he ﷺ never celebrated this event, and he ﷺ had the most right to. If he ﷺ lived for at least 12 years after the occurrence of this event [since the year of its occurrence is also debated, and could be from the 5th year of prophethood, or even up until the 11th], and didn’t once single out this day to tell him companions about this joyous event, we have to be sure that we aren’t going against his perfect teachings ﷺ. Especially since we claim to love him ﷺ more than anyone else [may God actualize this love in our hearts, Āmīn!]. So at the end of the day, this event is being hosted so we can all learn about this great event in the life of Our Beloved Prophet ﷺ, and to further increase in our love him ﷺ. We, the organizers, are not known to single out dates for his praise ﷺ, rather we spread it out evenly throughout the year with classes and seminars such as this. There should be no confusing our goal and intent here. May God ﷻ guide us and correct our intentions and actions, Āmīn.

Poems of Praise
[...] My Beloved, my Dear, your praise has no end,
God loves you so much, that He made you ascend.

Higher and closer, where none has been before,
Closer than two bows, that’s how much you’re one to adore.

You’re loved, you’re loved, yes He loves you so,
He’s given you that which none else will ever know.

No one will ever know just how special you are,
In a universe of black you’re the most brightly shining star.

All of humanity on one end and you on another,
Your virtue outweighs them all; your likeness has no other. [...]
...And then Jibrīl did halt and say,
—'The Lote-Tree holds my hallowed niche,
And, at its bound, my station ends;
—The Lote-Tree is the farthest reach.
I dare not pass the final veil
—That yet remains; though I may yearn,
For should I step into the Light,
—Then, verily, my wings will burn!'

Jibrīl did falter, all did fail.
—The Prophet rose beyond the veil,
To hear the scribing of the quills,
—On tablets, God's eternal will.
Enshrouding clouds around concealed,
—As God Almighty was revealed.

We stand silent; we say no more.
—A secret lay beyond that door.
And say we naught; if uttered aught,
—Then none but speech that He was wrought.
' No vision may encompass Him;
—For vision He compasses.
'...
Lyrics of Love

It is I that will make you pleased,” said God,
At this it was, that he was now called.

An invite so great, like never before,
Lead all the Prophets, you’re the best for sure.

Then he went, into the Heaven of low,
And there was Adam, to all of us, old.

To the second Heaven, up he now went,
With Jesus and John, to whom he now met.

Further up he went, now at level three,
Seeing Joesph, with half of his beauty.

Up and up, now at the level of four,
Up to Idrīs, from whom ink was first poured.

Up to level five, is where he now reached,
Aaron he met, who had nice and clear speech.

At six, our Prophet, is ever so high,
Where he met Moses, a man with God, nigh.

At seven our Prophet, far above land,
Ibrahim said, “Send your people Salām!”

More so than that, he was called past the Heav’ns,
He stood so high, far beyond The Seven.

A rank so high, even the Angel— shy,
The best of signs, he did see with his eye.

And here it was, when prayer was revealed,
His rank with God, was no longer concealed.

Face-to-face like two bows brought together,
The Beloved of God, he is forever.
